schooner, 122 tons, Cloinch master, arrived 1 July 1844 at Melbourne from Flinders Island, passengers Messrs Strode, White, Levien, Alexander Stewart, crew and passengers of the ship Isabella, bound for London, wrecked at Flinders Island.   • Isabella
    left Hobson's Bay on 18 June and encountered boisterous conditions.
    On 21 June she attempted to put anchors to resist the gale, but drifted onto a reef, was able to land the ladies and a few passengers, others were lashed to the poop all night. Next morning they retrieved a boat that had been swamped, and reached shore before the vessel went to pieces. They found they were on Flinders Island, and were sent a supply of clothes and provisions by Dr and Mrs Milligan who hold a government appointment at the Aboriginal Station at Flinders Island. They reached the Flying Fish just before she was to sail.
    Rescued are Mrs Hardy and infant, Mrs French and child, Miss Scott, Messrs Broadfoot, John Hunter, Alexander Campbell, Mr McNeil from Port Fairy, Barry Cotter, Jack Ewart, G Roach (of Darebin Creek), H Davis and Mr Coffin late of the ship Wallace.

  • Inquest held for Edward Murphy, who had been emoployed by Colonel Kenny of Moonee Ponds, and was returning to town with his master's bullock dray, when one of the wheels hit a stump, he fell and a wheel passed over his upper body. He died the next day, and the jury placed a deodend of 6d on the wheel of the dray, the immediate cause of the accident.
